Sustainable, functional and high-quality
Sustainably and fairly produced products are very important to us. No matter how sustainably a product may be produced, the entire balance sheet is lost if the product only has a short life cycle and has to be replaced by a newly produced one. That is why we develop high-quality products with a long life cycle. All BMS products are certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® - Category 1 and are absolutely PFC-free.
Product development and products:
Our functional clothing is developed where children are out and about: in the forest, on the playground, in the garden and on the street. We keep a close eye on what prevents children from feeling comfortable and moving freely. Contrary to the wasteful, short-lived ‘fast fashion’ trends, we do not produce constantly changing collections. BMS fashion from the world heritage site ‘Hamburger Speicherstadt’ is timeless in design, very hard-wearing, ideally suited to its use and therefore particularly durable.
Our colours are harmoniously coordinated and can be combined across collections and seasons. We select materials according to feel, appearance and, above all, functionality, naturally always keeping an eye on the latest developments. We generally favour uncomplicated fabrics that are washable, dirt and water repellent, quick-drying or have other practical advantages. We keep an eye on the environmental compatibility of all waterproof coatings and only use the polyurethane recommended by Greenpeace.
BMS products last an average of 10 years. For children, the wardrobe lasts an average of three generations before it is discarded. The BMS value is reflected above all in the very high resale value. And this is where we believe true sustainability begins. After all, what could be better for the environment than long-lasting clothing. A nice side effect for the customer is that it is also easy on the wallet.
Production:
Our suppliers are exclusively owner-managed, small factories with good craftsmanship. The partnerships are long-term and based on good personal relationships. The management personally monitors production and maintains contacts. It is also interesting to note that 80% of our partner factories are run by women. Our suppliers undertake to comply with the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® - Category 1, which includes testing for legally prohibited and legally regulated substances as well as chemicals known to be harmful to health. In their entirety, the requirements go well beyond existing national laws.
The factories that produce for us:
- Do not subcontract.
- Adhere to the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX® - Category 1
- Have passed the BSCI audit. (BSCI stands for ‘Business Social Compliance Initiative’ and is a platform for improving social standards in a global value chain. It offers companies a code of conduct that supports them in their efforts to build an ethical supply chain. This code is based on international treaties for the protection of labour rights).
- Are constantly monitored directly by us - so we are not reliant on third-party statements.
Production conditions:
Compliance with humane production conditions is particularly important to us, which is why all our suppliers are committed to a ‘code of conduct’. This is based on the guidelines of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). These standards include, among other things, limits on working hours, minimum wages, job security and a ban on child labour.
Control:
Every two months, our management visits the factories to check compliance with our prescribed working conditions and quality standards. This not only guarantees our quality standards, but also ensures that our ideas of fair trade and sustainability are consistently adhered to.
